Custom Made Timber Furniture Designs

Simon Zablotsky has an engineering background and worked with a broad range of metals and composite materials. He decided to pursue his passion for art and design by creating sculptural metal works incorporating various timber elements.

His passion and desire to work with timber and to design furniture led him to study Fine Furniture Design and Making at the University of Tasmania.

He then taught at the Australian School of Fine Furniture and he was invited to design and make the Federal Court Suite for the Queens Square Law Courts in Sydney, which bought him back to mainland Australia.

Simon’s passion is to produce contemporary fine timber furnishing of the highest standard, with a focus on a conservative use of Australian timbers procured from sustainable resources where possible.

Signature Custom Made Timber Furniture Designs can now be made to order from Zabo Design

Until recently we operated as Zablotsky Design. The name change has not changed the business, however we now produce a range of our signature designs that can be made to order and purchased directly from Zabo Design. They can also be found in a growing list of galleries around Australia including the Sturt Gallery and Australian Woodwork Gallery.

Our workshop is at the doorstep of the Hunter Valley and is spacious and modern with state of the art equipment and capacity to produce fine custom made timber furniture ranging from dining suites and boardroom tables to entire courtrooms.

Stunning Fine Timber Furniture Design and Function

As a designer and master craftsman in both timber and metals, Simon is able to design and make timber furniture and commission pieces that are highly complex in design and function.

He enjoys challenges and often incorporates electrical and mechanical components in his designs, such as cabinets with inbuilt TV lift mechanisms and lecterns with mechanical lifts and 180 degree rotation. The seamless inclusion of IT and data cables allows for a contemporary uncluttered aesthetic. He often collaborates with architects on these inclusions.

He has won several awards for his work, including one from the Australian Wood Review and one of his pieces is in the permanent collection of the Tasmanian Design Centre, and was featured on ABC’s Collectors.

Often organic shapes and flowing forms inspired by the natural environment find their way into his designs. Other inspirations are from Scandinavian design, arts and crafts and modern architecture.

He has worked collaboratively with architects and a number of well-known artists and sculptors.

He has designed and made numerous private commissions and artworks. Many of his public art commissions can be viewed in the Hunter and Illawarra regions.
